Girl, 5, back to class after bubble gun suspension

MOUNT CARMEL, Pa. (AP) - A 5-year-old kindergartner is headed back to class in central Pennsylvania after being suspended for comments she made to another girl about a pink toy gun that blows soapy bubbles
Officials say the girl, whose name has not been released, told one of her classmates in the Mount Carmel Area School District she was going to shoot her with a Hello Kitty pink bubble gun machine earlier this month. She was later suspended 10 days, but the discipline was reduced to two.
The Patriot-News reports Robin Ficker, an attorney representing the family, says the girl will return to class at Mount Carmel Elementary School on Thursday.
Ficker has said the girl didn't even have the bubble gun with her and has never fired a real gun.

I want to see a photo of President Obama making bubbles with this gun...:-)
@flashlight I want to see a photo of Wayne LaPierre doing that!
10 days eh? Â She has no concept of why a real handgun would be 'bad' and so consequently, would have no concept of staying home 10 days would be 'punishment'. Â Can this society be dumber? Â
@ETSubmariner Duh! We're talking PUBLIC SCHOOL ADMINISTRATORS here! Politically correct when the situation requires it, but dumber than oxen and usually having no concept of the MEANING of the Constitution or the Bill of Rights (although charged with ensuring the teaching of same!)
OMG, this is totally out of the ballpark obsurd. Perhaps those in charge should use a little bit of "old fashioned" common sense with these things. I really have to question the state of mind of some of these people and whether some of them should even be in charge of our children.
@Jatok I gotta agree, honestly. It's kinda like the police officer who shut down a kid's lemonade stand because the kid didn't have a commercial business license. :P (I'm not making this up.)
@KieferSkunk I know I read about that and I couldn't believe how pathetic it was.
@Jatok Well said, The people whohired these people also need to be reiewed.
Whoever suspended this girl should be forced to run face first into a brick wall. This stuff is getting dumber and dumber. When is common sense going to make a return? A mentally unstable 19 year old kid shoots up a school, and now everyone is scared of a 5 year old girl with a Hello Kitty bubble gun?
Â
To all school administrators: ask three questions before taking action.
Â
1. Is the threat credible, can the assailant actually carry out the dangerous attack?
2. Does the assailant actually have a dangerous weapon and not a toy?
3. If I suspend/expel a small child, will some guy on the internet recommend I be punched in the face for stupidity?
I have let my kids shoot me with their bubble guns all the time when they were that age. These liberal control freak Nazis need to go take a very long walk off a short pier with their pockets full of rocks!!!!
@bustedupredneck Man, just today, some kid on the beach fired a rocket launcher at me! (I was out at the beach south of the Edmonds ferry terminal and this kid was holding up a piece of driftwood on his shoulder, pretending it was an uzi.) I just played along and made like it was a really slow rocket that bumped into my chest and knocked me back a few feet. :)
Â
I'm not crazy about guns, but I see no harm in humoring a kid's imagination, especially when even the kid knows it's just make-believe.
LOL We are so screwed
Small people stroking their egos by exerting their power over a 5 year old.
The scary part is these are the same people supposedly educating her. Â
Â
Maybe suspension is a good thing. No child should be subjected to the teachings of these fools.
Â
@JeffNW The idea of sending any future children to these schools to be indoctrinated is just one of the reasons why I have decided to forgo having children. Despite the best efforts of (some of) the parents, 12 years of schooling where they are taught every day to love the state more than their own freedom does tend to sink in. Then there is college......don't even get me started on that.
@dg54321  @JeffNW "All in all they're just another brick in the wall."
Ah, school overreactions to children behaving like normal children.
Â
I assume that when it comes time to teach the Revolutionary War, The War of 1812, The Civil War, The Spanish-American War, World War I, and World War II that the school will replace the pictures of rifles and muskets with flowers and lollipops.
My kids would be much safer if the teachers all carried pink Hello Kitty bubble gun machines.
This is absolutely ridiculous. I understand zero tolerance but zero tolerance shouldn't include Hello Kitty bubble guns!
I took a red toy sucker dart gun to school in or around 1982-3? I got in trouble then, it's not new.
Â
Of course, I was not suspended, but my parents did whoop my ass when I got home.
If parents can't see the extreme hysteria school administrators caused over a BUBBLE GUN I don't know what will.. Like others here I used to play "army" and "cowboys & Indians" at school, not once were these insane zero tolerance extreme over reactions for being normal kids.

I hope some kid scans through their text book or a book in the library and the first time they sees the word gun, riffle, shot or anything else he goes straight for the school districts throat cause it made him feel unsafe.  I remember play cops and robbers and army men at recess and using pine cones and grenades.  If a kid did that know he would be in hand cuffs.  The kid probably don't understand what the big deal is or have any idea of recent events cause they are being sheltered from them.
This is your big controlling government at work. Also the effect of so called "zero tolerance" policies in effect. Innocent boys and girls made out to be criminals when they have done nothing wrong, just because they don't fall in line with whatever asinine thing the schools decide is unacceptable this week. Kids cannot even play anymore for fear of falling afoul of the ever expanding book of banned behavior and speech. Ridiculous and quite harmful to children.Â
How can school administrators be so stupid these days.
@oledawg "How can school administrators be so stupid these days."
Â
They go to college for a minimum of six years and have all common sense removed.
@oledawg This is rampant in the school system. Unfortunately these are the people that teach our children. Scary.
