ROSEBURG, Ore. - Police in Roseburg, Ore., say a man who robbed a restaurant was armed with a can of bug spray.
Sgt. Aaron Dunbar says the tall, thin robber entered Elmer's Restaurant late Monday wearing a green hooded sweatshirt, gloves and a white beanie atop a shoulder-length blond wig that was pulled partly across his face.
A bartender tried to bat away the can of insect repellent when the robber brandished it, but the employee got a direct spray to the face.
KPIC reports the robber grabbed money from a cash box behind the bar and fled with an undisclosed amount of cash.
Dunbar says this was something they don't normally see. "This is an extremely unusual case. We've had robberies in the past, but the idea of using bug spray as a weapon is a first," he said.
Police are urging anyone with any information to call the Roseburg Police Department's tip line at (541) 492-6794.

I bet he tries this trick again... and gets a severe beat-down for his reward.
BocaBob, you're right!!! People are being robbed by these CANS! I suggest we start by banning them from schools. If we ban spray cans from schools, then our children will be safer. In fact, we should ban toilets in schools too because people call it a can. The name association is too close to real cans so we need to uphold a zero tolerance to anything even remotely related to a spray can. The black military-style spray cans are more lethal because they have straws on the nozzle. In fact, we need to get rid of the high capacity cans. There's no need for high capacity cans. We can do with the 3oz. handpumps that fit in the palm of your hand similar to the eye glass cleaner pumps. Kids use spray cans to tag buildings! They're delinquency is attributed to these cans! I once sprayed my hand with Lysol as I was cleaning. It wasn't my fault, because I blame the can. Cans would also be much safer if we just tax the contents of the can at the expense of the can user. Here's a great slogan to end the rampage of cans: "YES, WE CAN!"
@777 Would that only apply to fully automatic cans? Or would it include semi-autmatic cans? What about spray bottles? Can the government legally use backpack mounted high capacity, fully automatic cans on its own citizens?
I bet that can of bug spray was acquired legally.
@technocat How do you know? Maybe it was stolen from some irresposible bug spray owner. Bug spray cans should be fitted with a button lock, and stored in a bug spray can safe.
Yeah, so? Bug spray is to get rid of pests, ain't it? ;) Number one rule; just know where to point it, and that would be AT the pest, not at yourself.
ban all bug spray!
