Mayor of crime-plagued city promotes lock-picking class

OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) - The mayor of a California city struggling with a spike in burglaries and other crimes is apologizing for promoting a class about how to pick locks in her newsletter.
Oakland Mayor Jean Quan said Wednesday she understood the reaction of people who were upset about a listing for the lock-picking class. She said she will do a better job reviewing listings in the future.
The Oakland Tribune reports that the class - offered through the website workshopweekend.net - was geared toward people who misplace their keys. But it didn't go over well with some residents given the city's crime woes, including a more-than 40 percent jump in burglaries last year.

I have been a LockSmith for years and find it extremely easy to access locks by picking them. Some locks with anti-pick pins are extremely difficult to pick but can be done. Luck plays a major part in opening these with using various rakes and tossing the pins to a shearline.
However the City should not have posted instructions to open locks if you lost your keys. That was wrong as it does open a causation against the City for malfeasence by training wannbe crooks. The innocent who lose belongings to a crook trained by the Mayor is in essence a crime boss and punishable by imprisonment.
If you want in please call a LockSmith as our rate vary by a wide margin depending on an ability to pay.
Aw com'on, don't people have anything more to do than pick on people? What's happened to this nation?! The commentors have a point...why pick a lock, when you can smash your way in and nobody will notice or care anyway?
I see nothing wrong here. They will actually show which locks are joke locks and which locks that even the pros will back off from. I have one of the tougher ones, but I am sure there are better.
I don't have stats on this but most burglars do not pick locks. They smash, pry or break their way in it is quicker and they don't care. Â Locks are for honest people.
@APenny4MyThoughts So dishonest people don't want to protect their things?
@Lrry*x*K @APenny4MyThoughts No need to, the things they have they probably stole from someone else. And even if they do have "their" things stolen they will simply go out and steal some more.
@APenny4MyThoughts My Grandpa used to say "Locks only keep the honest people honest." He used to put a 25 cent lock from a gumball machine on his garage.
There are plenty of tutorials on how to pick locks on you tube.
