Police: Neighbor takes out noise frustration on fresh stripe job
GIG HARBOR, Wash. -- A neighbor took out his frustrations about a noisy project at an adjacent business by stomping in a fresh paint job on its parking lot, prosecutors said.
Court documents state Gig Harbor police were called to a Windermere Realty office Monday by a man who was paint striping the parking lot. He said as he was working, a man approached and stood in front of the machine.
When the painter stopped the machine to ask what he wanted, the man began kicking his feet across the freshly-painted lines, spreading paint everywhere.
The painter told the man "you just bought a new paint job" and began to dial 911 from his cell phone but the man slapped the phone away and then went for a second round of kicking paint around, prosecutors said.
The man then walked back to his home next door.
Shortly after the painter called police, the alleged paint-kicker called 911 to report the painting crew was making too much noise, prosecutors said, but he added he was very argumentative with dispatchers.
An officer arrived at the home and was told by the man that he hasn't been able to sleep due to noise, and he did indeed kick the paint but denied swatting the phone away. He also agreed to pay for damages, estimated at about $2,500.
While the officer went to do paperwork, the man jumped in his car and tried to drive away, but was pulled over by the officer and arrested for investigation of malicious mischief and assault, investigators said.
Court documents state the man has had a long-standing feud with the property owner and the city of Gig Harbor over noise complaints.

Try living next to someone with a Peacock!!!
While I understand what the guy is going thru, I'm not exactly sure if it was worth $2500. Â
Â
When i worked nights, nothing was more annoying then coming home & going to sleep to be waking up 2 hrs later to whatever loud noise that was outside right at 8 am
I would hate to see what would have happened if he lived right next to active railroad track
He must be fun to live with.
Must be h--- to come to the realization that the whole world isn't going to change to suit your needs.
That was a $2500 temper tantrum! Man, I would have LOVED to seen footage of that!
Ear plugs, some tylenol PM and a shot of whisky could have prevented the whole mess.
@KOMODrone#07737 LOL! I like the way you think! Problem Solved!
Â
Is there a noice ordinance during the day? I doubt it. Deal with it dude. He needs anger management classes. Getting that worked up over nothing, what a freak. I wish they would include these losers name's in their stories.
And now he gets to listen to them paint the lot a second time.
@nodozr If I were the painter, I would take as long as I could to repaint it.
I have a gun range about 4 blocks from my house. It's noisy, but you just learn to ignore it. Its been there longer than I have, and I knew what I was getting into when I moved there. This is temporary noise. And if the I'm thinking of the right one, this office is literally a block from highway 16. And its right on one of the main drags through town. He had no reason to complain.
$2500? For a few paint stripes? Dude must be a former river dancer to do that much footwork so fast. Seems like a couple cans of spray paint and a couple hours work should cover it.
@dorimonsonfan There is also cleaning, prep, paint, painting, drying, cleanup, hazardous waste disposal, taxes, & fees to contend with in there. You just don't go dropping paint and call it good. The surface must be prepared correctly. This is also a specialty paint that you can't get from Lowes or Home Depot.
@dorimonsonfan OMG........imagining a river dance type of tantrum.........laughed until I couldn't breathe - thank you for that today!  It probably only takes a few hours or less than a day to paint a lot and deal with the noise, what a dummy. Â
@dorimonsonfan Yeah, $2500... Sounds like someone is taking advantage of the situation.Â
For $2500 he could have himself a REAL nice pair of noise-canceling headphones...
Ear plugs would have been much cheaper. Â What an idiot!
Man, I hope his mommy came home, gave the brat a good spanking and put him in a lengthy time out for acting out. What a flippin' jerk!
I usually do not like unnecessary noise; matter of fact right next to our apartment complex they are doing major clearing out of an old trailer park for heavens-knows-what. I figure since they're going to be there awhile, I try to make my brain think of it as background noise instead of letting irritate me. Kind of a "choose my battles/worries" thing. I wish everyone could be successful at this, and even I admit I am not all the time...and hey, there are always earplugs!
@DMT Yeah last month I went through 2 nights of highway resurfacing and concrete grinding.  They started at 11:00 pm, when the noise stopped at 2:00 am I remember having so much relief.  It was just a break, they started up again at 2:30 and worked until 4:00 am.
@DMT Yeah, there's been some demolishing of 2 larger houses and clearing a block behind me for more of those lousy tiny homes, 21 to be exact. And even though they're a little loud, what bugs me the most about it is the fact they're getting rid of good property for more of these homes, not to mention the extra traffic that will come with it. But I sure as hell don't see myself resorting to the level of a 10 year old. What really gets me is that he actually calls 911 himself to complain about it!
@Zoso @DMT There is some property being cleared behind me too for some houses. On the 3rd day of being woken up at 6:30am from their monster machines idling, I called to make sure they had the proper permits... which they didn't. Got another couple weeks of restful sleep until they started back at it, WITH the proper permits this time.
@Zoso I'm down in the Tacoma/Spanaway area.
@Tattooed_Angel Good call! Actually, they haven't been at it for about a week now, since they haven't demolished the second house yet. Kinda makes me wonder if we're talking about the same place. Mine's down in Renton.
@Zoso Not a whole lot we can do if the activity is within certain times of the day...and it does suck that workers can start as early at 7am!!
@DMT Yeah same here. Fortunately it's cool enough that I don't need to keep my window open. If it was last month, then it would've been pretty bad.
What a nut job.
Figure this would be local news and not offbeat... was it really worth causing all those problems that now cost you $2,500?
