Watch: Snake hangs on to plane's wing
SYDNEY (AP) - This snake on a plane had a turbulent flight.
Stunned Qantas Airways passengers watched out their windows as a large python clung to a plane's wing during a two-hour flight from Australia's northeastern city of Cairns to Papua New Guinea.
The 3-meter (10-foot) python fought to stay on the wing, pulling itself forward only to be pushed back by the frigid wind.
Passenger Robert Weber videotaped the struggle and told Australia's Fairfax Media that the wind whipping the snake against the side of the plane left a bloody smear.
The python managed to hang on until the plane landed in Port Moresby, but a Qantas spokesman said the creature was dead on arrival.
It was reminiscent of the 2006 Hollywood thriller "Snakes on a Plane."
I knew better than to watch the video. I could get the idea of what happened from the photo.. I hate see anything suffer!! Poor thing!! And just so weird too.
So glad there is one less awful snake in the world. They are awful creatures!!!
The snake probably died from oxygen deprivation considering how high the plane would have been flying.
All that tenacity, and it didn't even pay off. Â Poor guy.
This is so sad. Not funny in the least. I am going to go give my python some snuggles now. Poor thing.

Not a fan of snakes, but this is really, really sad. Â Awful to think of its suffering. Â Not a funny story at all.Â
 @magicmarker I used to be an expat in PNG.  Everyday, during my commute, I saw large snakes like the one in this article on the roads.  In PNG, snakes are like squirrels during the Spring in Washington.
Sad that the python lost its life. I love snakes, they are beautiful creatures.

Oh, the poor thing! It tried so hard only to be beaten to death on the side. Probably would have been better off letting go very shortly after the plane started moving.
