Vets save dog that swallowed 111 pennies

NEW YORK (AP) - A New York City dog has undergone emergency surgery to remove more than 100 pennies from his stomach.
The New York Daily News reports that a Jack Russell terrier named Jack swallowed 111 pennies last week and quickly became ill.
The 13-year-old pooch's owner rushed him to a Manhattan veterinarian for emergency surgery.
That's when dog doctors put Jack under anesthesia and methodically removed all 111 coins. The zinc from the coins could be lethal.
The dog's owner told the newspaper his best friend is back to his normal self, driving him crazy.

@VincentRocket oh I hope (s)he won't eat any more currency!
Reminds me of a friend of mine whose boxer would come into the bathroom while his wife was in the shower, then steal her underwear and eat them. They figured it out when they started finding pantie logs in the back yard. Lol.
Wonder how many $$$ it took to relieve the dog of $1.11. Â LOL
We have (we think) a Jack mix. Â They are crazy! Â So cute and so much fun but just crazy!
13 is a pooch that's getting up there in age. Old people do weird things... I'm sure it's no different for dogs. Glad he came out okay. Jacks are a fun breed.
Haha - what a hilarious dog! Glad hey saved him!
Goofy dog!  My lab will play with anything, so this doesnt surprise me....
How did the dog eat so many pennies? Did he mistake the coin jar for his food bowl?
Glad the dog is okay - Jack Russell's aren't the brightest, I've been told. Â I have a toy fox terrier/pom mix who drives me crazy but she's not into coins. Â I keep all coins up out of the way anyway.
@Elaine2Â My Jack Russell commented "How dare you say that about us", LOL...
@Gogorat @Elaine2 my jack russell isn't stupid. She refuses to go potty if it's wet, windy, rainy or cold out. She doesn't like being in the rain. Trying to convince her you only have one treat in your hand when you have 3 isn't going to happen. She's spoiled rotten and boy, does she know it
@BlueJedi @Gogorat - I only heard that Jack Russell's aren't the brightest - I have no knowledge of my own. Eddie on Frasier seemed pretty smart to me. Still love watching that show. :) My toy fox/pom is pretty much like the toy fox side but since her coat is more plush but nowhere near as bushy as a Pom, she adores being outside. She's a year old today and hasn't been in snow yet. Thought it might snow this winter, but no dice. Terriers are such fantastic companions!
