Once-beaten elderly couple gains new sense of security
By Molly Shen
LYMAN, Wash. -- The family of a local elderly couple is offering $5,000 to find the people who robbed and beat them.
Since we first shared the story of Hubert and Dorothy Wood, people across the country have offered to help. When we first introduced you to the Woods, they recounted a horrifying home invasion robbery during which they were bound, gagged and beaten. "He hit me over the side of the head," said Hubert. The robbers stole money from the Woods' safe, as well as their sense of security. "I can't sleep. Everything comes back," said Dorothy. That's where Steve Delimont comes in. When the Problem Solvers asked for help getting a new alarm system for the Woods, Meridian Security answered the call. "To hear that a couple this nice could have something like this happen to them, it's just unfortunate and we like to help them out and let them know there are still good people in the world," said Delimont. Delimont installed two keypads complete with panic alarms that silently call police and medics. And there are sensors on the windows to detect anyone breaking in. "When the little guy came I said, 'you mind if I give you a big hug?' He said, 'no.' So I gave him a big hug," Dorothy said. Hubert's black eye is turning to yellow. Both husband and wife have bruises that are fading. With help, their fear is fading, too. Now when Dorothy says, "It's just unbelievable. We never thought something like that would happen," she's not talking about the attack. She's talking about an act of generosity. |
