Merry Christmas not so certain for many local kids
SNOHOMISH COUNTY, Wash. -- Some local kids may not have a present to open come Christmas morning. Toys for Tots says it just doesn't have enough to go around.

More than 1,500 local kids are on the list to get a new toy. There are 400 more kids waiting for gifts than last year, and the YWCA's Holiday Toy Shop doesn't have a fraction of what it needs.

"I'm not sure how we're going to do it," said Luanne Kunz.

Kunz said Toys for Tots usually donates about 500 toys. But on Wednesday she received a phone call from Toys for Tots. The organization told her donations are so low, they have nothing to give.

Then a big delivery showed up. Marybeth O'Leary from the Lynnwood Fire Department, dropped off a load.

"We've had lots of people coming in dropping off toys saying 'I know there's a great need this year and I wanted to participate,'" O'Leary said.

Kids are all bright-eyed, hoping Santa doesn't forget them. But without more help, hundreds of kids in Snohomish County won't get toys.

"I'm still about 700 toys short. I'm not in panic mode yet, but I'm...I believe that we will get there," Kunz said.

To get them there, The Holiday Toy Shop needs more people to donate either to one of their dropoff points or - at the Problem Solvers Toys for Tots Big Drive this Friday. Donations can be dropped off at Wal-Mart stores in Federal Way, Marysville and Bremerton.

If you'd like to donate but are unsure of what type of a toy to buy, why not just choose a board game? That way the family that gets your donation will be able to spend quality time together throughout the holidays.

"Board games are very popular this year. I don't know if finances shortened if they're staying home more, but we have a lot of requests for board games," Kunz said.

Time is running out. The Holiday Toy Shop needs help in the next two days. Hundreds of families will pick up these donated toys for their kids on Saturday.
