The Seattle School District is checking to make sure every bus driver has a valid driver's licence, after discovering by accident one of their drivers has been hauling students with a suspended license.

That accidental discovery came Wednesday morning, when a tree hit the bus Marvis Bailey wasn't driving. State troopers responded to the accident and learned Bailey's license was suspended last month.

Now the school district says Bailey won't be driving their bus anymore.

"We're extremely concerned we're gonna follow up and find out how this happened," said Mareatha Counts, spokesperson for the district.

Counts says the district wants answers from Curtis Transportation, the company that hires bus drivers and run the district's fleet.

But Curtis Transportation says it doesn't know how it happened, and says the company routinely checks state records on every driver twice a year.

The company says it did know about Bailey's criminal past and at least four speeding tickets the most recent in October, but decided to hire him anyway.

But the company says it did not know the driver had no license cause they insist the driver didn't know the license was suspended in fact he didn't know until now that it was suspended for an unpaid parking ticket.

"This is an ongoing investigation we are fully and completely investigating with the district and state," said Mike Montgomery of Curtis Transportations.

Marvis Bailey insist he was never pulled over and never got a ticket or a suspension notice. He says he only has a carpool lane violation on record.

But the school district is so concerned that it has called for an audit on every school bus driver in the district while officials investigate Bailey's claims.
