SEATTLE -- Jason Wong's life changed in the blink of an eye.
A driver lost control of his Corvette, slamming into Jason Wong and his dad in the driveway of their home.
"All I know is I hear screaming like my son," said Salina Wong.
The 22 year old woke up in ICU, stunned to find doctors had amputated his leg. His remaining foot was broken.
"Just devastating. I can't believe this just happened," Jason Wong said. "You feel everything because of phantom pains. Can wiggle your toes and when you look down, it's not there."
Six weeks later, Jason Wong is home, slowly learning to move around all over again.
His dad can't walk yet, so the family can't reopen their West Seattle restaurant, West Jade Cafe.
"Seeing (my() son get hurt and my husband, it's very sad," said Salina Wong.
Loyal customers launched a "Save Jade West Café Fund at Wells Fargo Bank to help the family.
"We have to plan on building a ramp and remodel the bathroom," said Jason Wong.
Jason Wong says he won't dwell on the his amputated leg.
"I'm still the same person. Didn't suffer any brain damage," he said. "Physically different, but still the same Jason."
He'll soon be fitted for a prosthetic leg, and plans to resume golfing, swimming, snowboarding, and basketball.
But his mom wants the driver of the Corvette to see the change in her child. The driver is due in court next week to face vehicular assault charges. Court documents state the driver's breath-alcohol content was twice the legal limit.
