SEATTLE -- The University of Washington unveiled a new application for BlackBerry devices on Wednesday, becoming the first educational institution to offer campus information through Blackberry devices.
UW introduced the new tool at the annual Educause conference in Denver.
The new m.UW BlackBerry application offers course catalogs, campus directories, maps and news, as well as photos and sports scores, according to school officials.
The new application comes just two months after the school introduced its
iPhone application. Both projects are a part of UW's ongoing push to cater to students and faculty members on the go.
"This new platform allows us to easily reach our students, faculty and staff around the clock and deliver information whenever and wherever they want it, which increasingly is on mobile devices like the BlackBerry and iPhone," said David Morton, UW Technology's director of mobile communications in a statement.
The application can be downloaded on
UW's Web site.
Those with other mobile devices or Web-enabled cell phones can access services in a mobile-optimized format
