Apple loses German patent case vs. Samsung, Motorola

BERLIN (AP) - A German court has dismissed Apple Inc.'s claim that Samsung Electronics and Google Inc.'s Motorola Mobility infringed patents used in touch-screen devices.
The Mannheim state court's ruling Friday follows similar decisions in Britain and the Netherlands.
The ruling can be appealed within 30 days.
Apple and its rivals are locked in a complex worldwide battle over patents and design rights covering the lucrative market for smartphones and tablet computers.
Last month a U.S. court ruled that Samsung phones and tablets infringe on Apple patents, and awarded the Cupertino, California, company $1.05 billion.
Meanwhile, Samsung is seeking royalties from Apple for sales of iPhones it says infringe on its patents.

OMG!!! They are exactly the same. If they had not pointed out which was which, you could not tell them apart.  Oh wait, the one on the right says Samsung right in front. They both use desk top icons though, oh and the Samsung is in color just like the Apple.  They Samsung has copied the use of an old-fashioned telephone hand set for their phone symbol. No one has ever done that before. Wait, they both tell the time in the face. I bet Apple was the first to do that as well. No wonder Samsung got their butts kicked in (only) a US court. What on earth could be wrong with the whole rest of the world? Canât they see the obvious? It is a good thing that they donât make my old HP iPaq any more. HP would be in the same place as Samsung. It looked almost exactly the same (well a few differences) and even started with a lowercase âiâ.   Â
@oldster70 And don't forget Apple's (absolutely absurd) assertion that Samsung infringed on their patents by making a rectangular smartphone, because they (Apple, that is) invented the rectangle.
Â
No, really, they actually said that in court.
Â
Next up, Apple tries to claim that they invented the color white.
