E-books sales continue to soar
NEW YORK (AP) — Yes, e-books and novels for young people are hot.
Sales of e-books more than doubled from 2010 to 2011, according to a survey of nearly 2,000 publishers released Wednesday. E-books jumped from 6 percent of the market to 15 percent and e-revenue for new adult fiction is now higher than the revenue for hardcovers.
Sales for books overall dropped 2.5 percent to $27.2 billion and 12.6 percent at physical stores, thanks in part to the fall of the Borders superstore chain. But revenue for children's/young adult fiction increased 12 percent, with "The Hunger Games" selling millions of copies and readers of all ages buying them.
The survey was compiled by the Book Industry Study Group, a research organization, and the Association of American Publishers.

Digital e-books and audiobooks are so convienient. I personally get tired of reading with my eyes, so I listen instead.Â
I regret having a thing against the Kindle. Now that I finally caved and bought one, I fell in love with it.
Great for publishers.
Bad for authors, who receive royalties based on a % of sales 25 cents per sale < 25 dollars per sale.
Worse for the thousands of seattle are print industry workers knee capped by the over night contraction of the industry in 2008.

The book bubble will burst much like the music industry when the truly talented writers are priced out of the market. It will be like turning on your radio expecting to hear the Beatles but only getting Nickleback.
@Mesh But there are also a lot of authors who are now able to self-publish and sell their work as ebooks who couldn't get a polite slap in the face from a traditional agent or publishing house.
I got a kindle fire in February. I'm reading more than ever. It's so easy to carry. Pick up and read a few pages here and there. Get tired of a book? Stop and read it later and switch to another.

I can't speak highly enough of the e-readers.
I joined the Kindle crowd last year....reading more than ever now!!
