Facebook tops 1 billion active users

NEW YORK (AP) - Facebook has topped 1 billion users, but the past few months have not been easy.
CEO Mark Zuckerberg says that the company is going through a bit of a rough patch following its rocky initial public offering.
Zuckerberg updated his Facebook status on Thursday to announce that the social networking site has more than 1 billion active users each month. He thanked users and said that he is committed to making Facebook better.
The Menlo Park, Calif.-based company has had a difficult time of late. There were trading glitches the day it went public in May and concerns since then about its revenue potential. It's also facing lawsuits from disgruntled shareholders.
Zuckerberg said in a "Today" show interview Thursday that "we're in a tough cycle now and that doesn't help morale, but people are focused on what they're building."
Last month Zuckerberg gave his first interview since Facebook's shaky IPO and since that time he's been working hard to boost confidence among investors and the public.
Zuckerberg told Matt Lauer during the "Today" interview that Facebook's future is about mobile, an area it's been criticized for not capitalizing on quickly enough.
The 28-year-old executive also continued to reassure that he is the right person to lead Facebook, as some on Wall Street have questioned whether he has the ability to lead a large public company.
"I take this responsibility very seriously," he said.
Facebook Inc.'s stock gained 45 cents, or 2.1 percent, to $22.28 in premarket trading. The shares closed at $21.83 on Wednesday, off 43 percent from its $38 IPO price.

I'm not one of the billion. I utterly refuse to join Facebook or any of the other "social media" cliques. I have been asked several times to do so, my sister badgered me for months to join but I have steadfastly refused.
Facebook is 100% lying about so called "active users" because many have chosen to permanently have their accounts removed and Facebook failed to comply! Facebook is 100% deceptive about having your account removed their so called two choices of removal is designed to fool the user into believing his/her account was deleted when in fact it wasn't deleted but left there waiting for you to sign back in. I have tried many times to have it completely deleted and each time told it was only to find out it was still there. FB can kiss my tush, and I can hardly wait until it completely crashes and is worthless to anyone.....
I removed all my pictures and unfriended everyone I had on there. Waited weeks to deactivate because every few days I would log back on and some, not all, of my stuff was still there even after I deleted it! I finally deactivated it and do not miss it one bit. A few people I reconnected with I have stayed in touch with. The others, I guess there was a reason we lost contact so long ago in the first place.
@swansong68 Humm.... I bet your account is still there.... even when you wait past the two weeks.... guess what? still friggin' there. It makes me angry... grrr... I despise Facebook.
@Funky-Munky That's so true, I know a guy who wanted off face book, and ask for his profile, they sent him a CD of everything he did, said, and everywhere he went, and they continued to track his every move even after he deleted his account, how they do that I haven't a clue, except maybe when you give them your information, e-mail etc. they can & do tap into your e-mail, they did that to me, I had contacts in my e-mail that I did not share with FB, but they came up on my screen as possible people I might know....now that was scary. I tried a new application called "Do not Track Plus" and was amazed to see how many companys were tracking me on FB, it was in the hundreds, and that was just 1-week after I got the program.=, that program is not only for facebook, it is for where ever you go on the net.
@SJ I am working on a lawsuit currently.... haven't filed it yet.
Still not worth anything. Can't come up with a money making plan.
Must say thats a whole lot sheeple..
