Groupon halts gun-related deals
NEW YORK (AP) — Groupon has halted gun-related promotions such as deals for shooting ranges and concealed weapons courses in the wake of last month's massacre in Newtown, Conn.
Groupon Inc. spokeswoman Julie Mossler said Tuesday that the move is based on the deals' performance as well as "current customer and merchant feedback." These, she says, have made it "clear they're not a fit right now."
The Chicago company declined to comment further and did not mention the Newtown shootings in its reasoning. There, 20-year-old Adam Lanza killed his mother, 20 children and six educators at an elementary school before shooting himself.
The event has intensified the gun control debate in the U.S. and has led other companies, such as Dick's Sporting Goods, to scale back gun-related business activity, at least temporarily.

While I've never observed deals related to the purchase of weapons of any type, I have seen - and purchased - discounted firearms training for my wife and I. We have also had friends of ours purchase these same training sessions through Groupon. I must admit I completely fail to see how better education through accredited firearms training facilities somehow contributes to murders and mass-killings of school children. Why would Groupon take a stand against law abiding gun owners who are interested in following the ever changing legislation and learn to handle their weapons in a safe and responsible way? Has a single criminal been identified as somebody that has received training through a Groupon deal?Â

I wish them good luck in their business endeavors. Between these types of policies and the increasing number of competitors to this business model, they'll need it.  I will not purchase any more goods or services through Groupon based on this recent policy change.Â

There goes my business. Punishing LEGAL, Law abiding, tax paying businesses for a tragedy is misguided at best. Not to mention stupid, short sighted, and irrelevant.
Groupon is on the slow decline to bankruptcy anyways....this will help speed things along, and given their spineless position on this issue, I'm just fine with that. Let them die an irrelevant death.
