Topline: What we're talking about right now in the KOMO newsroom

SEATTLE -- A lot of wishes are about to come true for kids around the region, thanks to the generosity of KOMO viewers and readers.

Our Wishes in Flight mileage drive on Thursday raised over 5 million miles for Make-A-Wish -- 5,414,388 miles to be exact.  Viewers also donated $2,535 in cash!

The 5.4 million miles will provide 135 plane tickets for Make-A-Wish, which will save the agency about $60,000 in providing wishes to kids in need.

"Thank you all for your continued support," said Jeanette Tarcha with Make-A-Wish Alaska & Washington. "What a great day all around!"

Two big things happened in the world of photography this week.

Both of those events involved Instagram.

I saw this new TV ad for Microsoft's Internet Explorer 9 last night.

I instantly recognized that view of Seattle on someone's Facebook timeline cover photo because I've taken similar ones many times before.

I’m a fan of the Hunger Games.  But after seeing the movie last night I’m a little disheartened by it.

Well, maybe not disheartened by the movie.  No, I believe I’m actually disappointed and disturbed by the reaction from some fans to the movie.

SEATTLE, Wash. -- When questioned at Wednesday's annual meeting of Starbucks shareholders, CEO Howard Schultz made it clear that the company will continue to stand in public support of same-sex marriage.

At the time many commentators and even reporters said the dramatic killing of Osama Bin Laden played out like the script of a heroic action movie.

Now it appears that real life drama will be part of a new film, “The Road We’ve Traveled.” But that film isn’t a traditional heroic action movie, instead it is a film dubbed a documentary and created by President Obama’s campaign team.

Paul Thomasson is on a one man letter writing campaign.

Thomasson, a Boeing employee and military veteran who lives in the Seattle area, is writing and sending personal emails to hundreds of people in Washington in the hope that by telling his personal story he can convince them to change their mind and support same-sex marriage.

Surprisingly to even some supporters, Thomasson’s campaign may actually be working.

“Because I am gay, because I've been partnered for almost 17 years, and because I would like to be equal in the eyes of the law someday before I'm too old to appreciate it, I decided to try to tell ‘my story’ to the people who need to hear it most,” Thomasson wrote on his personal website explaining his plan.

We like many neighbors were sad to see the venerable Madison Park Cafe close its doors after 30+ years.

The Seattle Times reviewed the new Cafe Parco in early February.  The verdict was a mixed one.  But we don't always agree with the formal reviews so we wanted to try it ourselves.

Sunday my husband and I sat down for a 10:30 brunch (brunch begins at 10:00 am on the weekend).
