How can we be better in 2011?

By Dan Lewis

Not a day goes by that I don’t wonder: what are we doing well and how can we improve our newscasts at KOMO.

People often tell me they have a hard time watching the news because it’s all bad news, or there’s too much crime. I realize that much of the news is about tragedies, hardships and crime; but in our newsroom we make a concerted effort – every day – to have uplifting stories too.

We do stories about the good being done in our community, or the KOMO Problem Solvers helping people who are facing hard times. Our Consumer Problem Solvers give good advice on a daily basis to help all of us get the best products, for the best price and avoid being ripped off by scam artists. We have fun features like: “The question of the day” and “Eric’s Little Heroes.”

The reason I bring this up is because I’d like you to help us. What are we doing well? Where can we improve? What kind of stories do you like to see on the news? Do you have story ideas? I’m open to any and all suggestions.

I can’t make promises that all your ideas will make it on the air – but I can promise that I’ll read them all and that I’ll learn from your suggestions and share them with our managers here at KOMO 4 News.

Leave a comment below or follow me on Facebook so we can continue to have this conversation.
