This week, we open the Vault and pull out a story from 22 years ago.

On February 24, 1987, Husky Stadium was undergoing an expansion, with an upper level of seats being added to the north side. A beam slipped from a crane and destroyed hundreds of seats below.

The next day, the 25th, a crack in a support was spotted and a call went out to evacuate the workers. A half hour later the entire structure collapsed.

Kathi Goertzen and Kerry Brock present our stories from the early and late newscasts February 25th, including an interview with the man who took photos of the structure as it fell. Those photos are included in the latter part of the video.

The good news is that no one was hurt, and the project was finished in time for the Huskies opener in September.
