The Century 21 Exposition, more commonly known as the Seattle World's Fair, opened this week in 1962.

Last week, we took a look at the build-up to the fair as seen in our 1962 year-end special, "Digest '62."

Today we'll check out the opening ceremonies, a time lapse video of the Space Needle's construction, a tragic jet crash, and look at some of the faces, hats and foods seen at the fair.

Near the end we start to see some of the VIPs who attended.

Tomorrow we'll see more of those visitors and take a look at the theme of Century 21: "Space Age" The Future (circa 1962!)
