The Schrammie: An amazing lack of understanding

When times get tough, the tough get going.

Going on strike, that is.

And since the 303 teachers in the Ferndale School District aren't doing anything today, they should have the time to put away those attendance sheets and come on down.

Ferndale teachers are upset over getting what they think is a measly two-hours a week of on-the-clock time to prepare for how things will go in the classroom.

Other district teachers get more time.

At a contract impasse, the Ferndale teachers overwhelmingly voted to hit the bricks and teach their school district officials a lesson.

I usually find it relatively easy to support teachers when it comes to contract demands that reflect a genuine concern for educational issues.

But this?

I think not.

I think that with school districts all over the state suffering with budget issues; with class sizes increasing; with not enough money to assure a level of quality education, I think Ferndale teachers should get slapped on the knuckles with a ruler for their antics.

Since the knuckle/ruler thing won't work, I figure I should at least point out that Ferndale teachers are displaying an amazing lack of understanding of the times we are living in, not to mention a complete lack of commitment to their students.

So take a bow teach, because this "Schrammie's" for you.
