Sometimes excuses have to be made.

Because sometimes an explanation just isn't enough.

This is one of those times.

Actually, the names have NOT been changed, which is why I'd like Seattle Police Lt. Deanna Nollette and Officer Bill Collins to make sure their weapons are finally secured and then come on down.

Here's what we've been told:

Officer Bill was cleaning out his patrol car and in the process placed an assault rifle on the trunk of another patrol car parked nearby.

Having the memory of a goldfish, Officer Bill promptly forgot about said rifle and wound up leaving it on the trunk of the other vehicle.

At some point Lt.Deanna - not noticing the rifle lying on the trunk - drove that patrol car out of the garage.

A good Samaritan later spotted the parked patrol car parked downtown with Lt. Deanna no where to be seen.

The assault rifle, remarkably, was still on the trunk of the squad car.

You know, this "Schrammie" all but gives itself.

What more needs to be said when you have one police officer who forgets all about his assault rifle and command officer whose powers of observation leave something to be desired.

So if Officer Collins - here-to-fore known as "Toody" - and Lt. Nollette - fondly to be known as "Muldoon" - would just take a bow, this "Schrammie" is for you.
