Ken's emails: Those not celebrating same-sex marriage bill
Gov. Chris Gregoire, seated, is surrounded by legislators and supporters as she signs into law a measure that legalizes same-sex marriage on Monday, Feb. 13, 2012, in Olympia, Wash.
SEATTLE -- My commentary celebrating the passage of marriage equality here in our state included cautionary words about those who are now in the process of trying to overturn that law.

More than a few people - but less than a lot - took exception.

Rob Voelpel writes:  "Can't believe you would support this.  Doesn't anyone read the Bible?  One man, one woman..."

Scott Newkirk:  "This may be a momentous occasion for you, but it is deplorable to me.  This is not a civil rights issue.  It is a religious/social issue..."

Don Workman:  "Who the hell are a bunch of liberal Democrats and a liberal Democratic governor to jam this down our throats?  Hopefully most of them will be kicked out of office in November."

Cynthia Oster:  "Just because I don't agree with you about gay marriage does not make me 'narrow minded and spiteful'...I believe in the Bible and pray to God that our society can protect homosexuals from themselves."

And finally, from Deryll Hughes:  "I feel sorry for you and all the other open-minded people who have become so open-minded that they have lost touch with reality."

Got me there Deryll, but then I never knew that being closed-minded was the key to being realistic.

Thanks for writing everyone. Have a great weekend.
