The Schrammie: A toast to the liquor control board

The Schrammie: A toast to the liquor control board

By Ken Schram

SEATTLE -- Another criminal enterprise brought to its knees.

Well, sorta, kinda, maybe criminal.

I mean, it's not like they were serving a pinot grigio with red meat.

So, would a representative of the State Liquor Control Board please put a cork in it and come on down?

Last month, an agent for the liquor police swept in to a cooking school on Seattle's Beacon Hill.

Responding to an anonymous complaint, the agent was there to verify that the school was actually cooking with wine and that would-be chefs were known to sip wine while being taught the culinary arts.

All that without a proper liquor license.

Oh wait, there is no liquor license available for cooking schools.

Which means the owners of Culinary Communion must now spend an estimated $10,000 to become something 'like' a restaurant or a beer and wine shop before even thinking of cooking with wine again.

So, for being overzealous and overbearing; for killing the alfredo sauce along with the beef with burgundy mushrooms, here's a toast to the liquor control board, because this "Schrammie" is for you.

Have something to say to Ken? E-mail him at kenschram@komo4news.com.

And be sure to join Ken, along with John Carlson, on "The Commentators", which airs every weekday from 3-6 p.m. on AM 570 KVI.

It's a lively exchange of information, insight and perspective with two guys who don't agree on much, but still manage to enjoy each other as they tackle issues of the day. Even better, callers are invited in on the verbal action.
