Giving this week's “Schrammie” to the state Republican Party didn't go over too well with most people. (Read earlier commentary at this link.)

If the e-mails I got are any indication, the general opinion is that babies born in this country shouldn't be automatic citizens if the mom came across the border illegally.

Aaron Wadsworth writes: "This (just) encourages people to illegally cross into the U.S. just to have their child...I say send the parents and the baby back to where they came from."

Grace Wood: "It's absolutely ridiculous that we would continue to reward women that enter our country illegally and give birth to their child on U.S. soil by handing them an all expense paid trip through life."

Garrett Baker: "I'm tired of dealing with immigrants, and your blather encourages (them)."

Lou Atcheson: “(Schram)...it's people like you who are destroying this country. Babies born to illegal aliens do not deserve automatic citizenship...Taxpayers should not have to foot the bill for (these) whelps."

And finally from Craig Kessel: "You are a bitter, cranky old man...Tell me where the constitution...makes a child born in the U.S. an automatic citizen?”

Well Craig, this “cranky bitter old man” suggests you read the 14th amendment.
