The Schrammie: A race to nowhere

The Schrammie: A race to nowhere

You can run but you can't hide.

Then again, if you keep others from running, you may want to try to hide.

So if Beth Knox (who just happens to be the President and CEO of Seafair) would lace up her Nikes, I'd like her to jog on down.

Beth is the one left holding the bureaucratic bag following last weekend's screwed up Seafair marathon.

Around 5,000 people signed up for the big run.

Some 400 of them were left waiting when the last shuttle bus pulled away because Seafair didn't hire enough buses to go around.

Beth and her Seafair crew are trying to make amends, but mostly they're trying to hang on to all that registration money.

Now, they've offered some of that money to charity.

And they've offered to let the runners run for free in some other race.

As a last resort, they've offered those who missed the marathon their money back.

In truth, the marathon mess wasn't entirely Seafair's fault, but ultimately the buck, if not the bus, stops there.

So for giving some 400 runners one big leg cramp, take a bow Beth, because this "Schrammie" is for you.
