The Schrammie: Going nowhere fast

The Schrammie: Going nowhere fast

I can certainly appreciate a healthy dose of sarcasm.

But when the message gets obscured in snarky satire, the point is all but lost.

And so it is that I would like to invite Seattle Mayor Greg Nickels to put away his thesaurus and come on down.

Mayor 5-pennies coughed up his two cents on a planned Sound Transit ballot measure in a special Seattle Times newspaper column.

Titled "10 lame reasons to delay mass transit," hizzoner tried buffooning his way into voter's hearts by caustically outlining why everyone should jump for joy over a tentative $18-billion plan that does little to nothing in the way of immediate congestion relief.

What the mayor doesn't explain is how the proposal is mostly about light rail that's at least 12 to 15 years away.

A mere 2 percent of the money would go to improving bus service, which could help ease congestion in a year or so.

So for a poorly written Saturday Night Live skit; for making voters the butt of his sarcastic joke, but mostly for trying to pull another sound transit fast one, take a bow Mayor Nickels, because this "Schrammie" is for you - again!

Have something to say to Ken? E-mail him at kenschram@komo4news.com.

And be sure to join Ken, along with John Carlson, on "The Commentators", which airs every weekday from 3-6 p.m. on AM 570 KVI.

It's a lively exchange of information, insight and perspective with two guys who don't agree on much, but still manage to enjoy each other as they tackle issues of the day. Even better, callers are invited in on the verbal action.
