SEATTLE -- Gotta love those car free Sundays in Seattle.
When Mayor Greg 5-pennies, aka Nickels, surprised everyone with this idea last month, it earned him the "Schrammie." (Read Schrammie at
this link.)
That's because I don't exactly warm to the idea of social engineering by elected officials.
Anyway, this past weekend saw the mayor's first car free Sunday.
Want to know my favorite part?
The not-so-publicized rule that says on some blocks not only can't you drive your car, you can't park it.
More than a dozen Capitol Hill residents found that out the hard way.
At least 15 cars were TICKETED AND TOWED off one street where even the very presence of an automobile was strictly forbidden.
Ain't that a hoot?
I'll tell you, when Mayor 5-pennies says no cars, he means no cars.
Of course, extra bike parking was provided so maybe the people who had their cars TICKETED AND TOWED were able to borrow some two wheeled transportation and coast on down to the impound lot where they could pay the hefty price of enjoying Seattle's first car free Sunday.
Just leaves me wondering: Was this really the mayor's idea?
Or did the city's towing companies come up with it?
