Ken Schram: A dilemma for some conservatives

Summary

Sarah Palin's 17-year-old daughter's pregnancy shouldn't affect Palin's vice presidential candidacy, but I wonder how those who were so quick to judge Jamie Lynn Spears' mother will react now?

Ken Schram: A dilemma for some conservatives
SEATTLE -- She's 17, pregnant and her mom is the Republican Vice Presidential candidate.

Sarah Palin issued a statement that her daughter will give birth in about 4 months and that sometime between now and then she will marry the child's father.

So what does this mean in terms of the Republican campaign?

Nothing.

At least I hope nothing.

This is strictly a family matter and should not be a distraction in respect to Sarah Palin's candidacy.

But I have to wonder how it will play out with conservative Republicans; the same conservative Republicans that were so openly hostile when they found out that 16-year-old Jamie Lynn Spears was pregnant last year.

Back then, conservatives went on a rip about what a lousy, inattentive, poor excuse for a mother Jamie Lynn had.

They applauded the teenager's decision to keep the baby, but went into overdrive in verbally backhanding the mom for not raising her daughter properly.

Seems to me those conservatives now have a dilemma on their hands.

If they were morally self-righteous enough to sit in judgment of the mother of one pregnant teenager, how will they respond to one who is now on their Republican presidential ticket?
