The Schrammie: Can I lend you a measuring tape?
By Ken Schram
I want to trust.
I've tried hard to trust. But the folks in charge make it so damn difficult. So would Joni Earl hang her Sound Transit CEO hat on the hook for a moment and come on down?
I figure that with Sound Transit's budget somewhere in the neighborhood of, oh say a gazillion dollars, someone should grab a couple of bucks out of petty cash and run out for a measuring tape. Near as I can tell, if a measuring tape had been handy, Sound Transit might not have paid $500,000 for a couple of repair trucks that are too wide to get in the tunnels where the repairs will have to be made. Of course, Sound Transit officials from Joni Earl on down were appropriately contrite about throwing more taxpayer money down a rat hole. By the way, rumor has it that someone at sound transit actually came close to apologizing. But then we all remember what Ali McGraw said in that sappy movie from years ago: "Love means never having to say you're sorry." Now, if there is one thing I'm certain of it's that Joni Earl can feel all the love that's coming Sound Transit's way right now. So take a bow Joni, because this "Schrammie" (and this measuring tape!) is for you. --- Have something to say to Ken? Login or signup below to post a comment.
