Ken Schram: Should he go or should he stay?
By Ken Schram
Should he go or should he stay?
Damion Bromfield, a legal permanent resident, came from Jamaica to the United States when he was 15 years old. Four years ago he pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor sex offense involving a minor and spent under a year in jail. That's when immigration officials decided to give him the hook. But he doesn't want to be sent back to Jamaica and is asking for asylum based on the fact that he's gay. He's been held at a Tacoma detention center for almost four years arguing that his life would be at risk given the homophobic attitude of Jamaica's citizens and its government. This week, the 9th circuit court of appeals sided with Bromfield and ordered the immigration judge here in Seattle to reconsider his case. So let's review: A guy who sexually molested a child gets a reprieve because as a gay man he might be targeted in the country where he was born. The 9th circuit court of appeals thinks it's more important to protect a pedophile then it is to protect children from sexual molestation. How's this for an idea: Why don't we send Bromfield and those idiot judges to Jamaica? --- Have something to say to Ken? Login or signup below to post a comment.
