The Schrammie: Picking up the tab

The Schrammie: Picking up the tab

By Ken Schram

Know what the odds work out to be?

Slim to none.

But what the hell, if you think you can exploit the system, why not give it a try.

So if he'd stop beating that union drum a minute, I'd like Tom-Tom Wroblewski to come on down.

Tom-Tom heads up the Boeing machinists who are on strike against the mighty maker of airplanes.

Now, while I am in full support of why those folks are on the picket line, I'm trying to figure out why the union is telling the machinists to sign up for unemployment compensation.

Funny thing about unemployment: According to state law, being on strike disqualifies a person from getting it.

But Tom-Tom's got an angle.

That angle would be an unfair labor practice complaint filed by the union.

And if the National Labor Relations Board upholds that complaint, there's a teeny-tiny chance it can be used to underwrite the strike on the backs of the 6 percent of people in this state who are actually unemployed through no fault of their own.

Tom-Tom, I really do support the strike, but not this weasely attempt to have taxpayers pick up part of the tab.

So take a bow Mr. Wroblewski, because this "Schrammie" is for you.
