Schrammie: Trepidatious trio barking up wrong tree
By Ken Schram
SEATTLE -- As they say, all dogs go to Heaven.
Unfortunately, first they must endure the hell on Earth of being dependent on people we know as politicians. So would King County Council members Julia Patterson, Dow Constantine and Reagan Dunn get their pooper scoopers ready and come on down.
This trepidatious trio is spearheading the effort to shuck King County's responsibility for animal services. They want to back out and bring in a private partner. Mind you, this is more about politics then it is about animal welfare. This is coming out of the mess that used to be the Kent animal shelter. I say "used to be" because shelter staff has jumped through just about every hoop rolled its way and has done a remarkable job in a really difficult situation. But hey, politicians are often known for doing what's expedient with little regard for doing what's right. So for thinking that the King County Sheriff’s Department is going to have the time and money to pick up part of the animal control slack, and for simply rushing forward without a real plan and no clear purpose, take a bow Dow and Julia and Reagan, because this “Schrammie” is for you.
