Schrammie: Plant this, oh heartless developer

Schrammie: Plant this, oh heartless developer

By Ken Schram

SEATTLE -- Is the grass always greener on the other side?

There's a hard-hearted developer over in Eastern Washington who thinks it should be.

So would Chick Edwards, real estate tycoon and stickler for dastardly details, put away his roto-tiller and come on down.

Chicky was hell-bent on putting the screws to a young couple that bought a home in his Kennewick subdivision.

As the self-appointed head of the homeowners association, Chicky wanted to haul the couple into court for not doing any landscaping, which he said was in violation of neighborhood covenants.

Chicky didn't give a hoot that the husband had been deployed to Iraq and that his pregnant wife had taken their young son to go live with relatives rather than have their new baby all by herself.

Chicky only cared about the lack of landscaping.

Well, people with the heart that Chicky lacks showed up last week to landscape the couple's yard for them.

And so Chicky doesn't get to haul the military man and his family into court.

What Chick Edwards does get to do is plant this "Schrammie" in an unmentioned but most appropriate place.
