I'm glad it's all but over.

This has been one of the ugliest, nastiest political seasons in quite a while.

Given my political proclivities, I am prone to point out how underhanded and vitriolic Republicans have gone at things.

This is particularly true when it comes to the presidential race.

John McCain and his neo-con cohorts have resorted to innuendo, rumor and outright lies to try and cast Barack Obama as the devil in a Brooks Brothers suit.

They tried pasting him with the rantings of Jeremiah Wright, his former minister.

They tried to sell the idea that he was a pal of terrorists like William Ayers.

They tried to cast Obama as a Muslim who wouldn't salute the flag or sing "God Bless America."

In the end McCain and company desperately settled in on what once was a GOP staple: Obama as a Marxist.

In state races, the political nastiness was more equitably distributed across party lines.

Gov. Chris Gregoire and GOP challenger Dino Rossi spent tens of millions of campaign dollars, most of it on trying to demonize the other in a way that made each look petty and mean-spirited.

Tomorrow our votes will bring it all to an end.

I don't know what you think but for me, I'm glad it will finally be over.
