Okay, so maybe I'm not a puppies and rainbows kind of guy.

My commentaries, including "The Schrammie," are meant to pick at the problems and issues that divide and impact us all.

Politicians are among my favorite targets because often it seems they leave the rest of us in the lurch with how they go about doing things.

That said, given the time of year and all, I ask that you indulge me for a moment.

Just about every politician I know holds a deep commitment to public service.

Whether its Governor Chris Gregoire or Congressman Dave Reichert, the people who choose to work on our behalf do so with our best interests in mind.

I may frequently disagree with how some elected officials go about doing that, but for here and now I want to say "Thank You" to all of the people we put in office to do what's pretty much a tough job.

And to the community at large: You continually renew my faith in the human spirit.

I genuinely marvel at the level of your compassion and generosity.

There may be any number of SOB's amongst us, but overall we each care in our own way and most times do the right thing for the right reasons.

In short, since I'm taking some time off, I want to wish a Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukah and a Happy New Year to you all.
