SEATTLE -- Uh-oh.

With a few critical e-mails already trickling in, I suspect the new comic book hero is in for a stormy reception.

Batwoman is replacing Batman, who as of last November is missing in action and presumed dead - though you can't always count dead as dead in comic book world.

Anyway, the new Batwoman is artistically decked out in some sort of clingy black outfit, set off by knee-high red stiletto boots.

Oh, did I mention she's gay?

The folks at DC Comics tout her as a "lesbian socialite by night and a crime-fighter by later in the night."

Greg Rucka created the character and notes that if people are going to have a problem with it, that's their issue, not his.

Well, I'll tell you, with the new Batwoman comic not even due out until June and with one biblical Leviticus quote already having been sent my way, I'm going to guess that there will be those that will try to make their issue Rucka's problem.

It's one thing for all the homophobes who've had difficulty adjusting to lesbians from all walks of real life and in all sorts business, religious and political positions of leadership.

It's quite another when one of them assumes the cowl of the caped crusader.

Like I said: Uh-oh.
