Ken Schram: Throw the book at this deputy

Ken Schram: Throw the book at this deputy »Play Video
SEATTLE -- I can understand the attorney's objections.

If my client was a King County Sheriff's Deputy caught on video whaling on a 15-year-old girl, I suppose I'd be trying to throw up some sort of a legal smokescreen as well.

Then again, if I was that attorney, my advice to the deputy would be to pack his bags and plan on spending some time in prison.

The hard-to-watch video was released last week.

It shows Deputy Paul Schene seriously thumping on the teenager while she was in a holding cell after having been caught driving her parents' car last November.

Accounts are the girl was being rude and snotty.

Reports are she kicked off her sneaker at the deputy, hitting him in the shin.

The deputy's lawyer insists that the video tape doesn't tell the whole story.

From what I saw, it tells me more than enough. I saw someone who is a disgrace to law enforcement.

I saw someone who couldn't maintain a measure of professional behavior.

I saw someone who wanted to hurt a teenage suspect in his custody.

He has no business wearing a King Country Sheriff's uniform and I hope the King County Prosecutor's office throws the book at him.
