Ken Schram: Who is the crazy one?
What say we all take the "Who Do You Think Is Crazy?" quiz.
Is it the 47-year-old criminally insane killer?
That would be Phillip Arnold Paul.
Well, let's see.
Paul, who's committed to Eastern State Hospital, was astute enough to order freeze dried food in anticipation of making an escape during a visit to the Spokane County Fair.
Paul was sharp enough to hide extra clothes in his backpack.
Paul had the presence of mind to stash $50 in with those extra clothes.
Paul was then clever enough to slip away from hospital staff charged with keeping an eye on him and more than two dozen other criminally insane inmates.
I have to conclude that while Paul is insane, he's not the crazy one here.
Nope, I think the nut case in this instance is the person, or persons, who decided it'd be a good idea to let 30 criminally insane people traipse over to the Spokane County Fair.
But wait, there's another choice.
Maybe you and I are the crazy ones.
Because if you and I don't step up and demand that every single person associated with this asinine field trip be fired - not reprimanded; not rebuked - but fired, then I think we could easily be classified as nuttier than a fruit cake.
So let me know: Who do you think is crazy?
