Ken Schram: Barista bust not about bikinis

Summary

I’ve gotten a few "I-told-you-so" e-mails from people who say the prostitution charges prove I was wrong for criticizing efforts to try and put more clothes on baristas who work at drive through espresso stands in the city. Actually, I think the arrests prove I was right.

Ken Schram: Barista bust not about bikinis
Appropriate name for the espresso stand in Everett where five baristas who work there have been charged with multiple counts of prostitution.

"Grab-n-Go" espresso has been the target of a two-month undercover investigation.

Police were tipped that "Grab-n-Go" women were charging customers up to $80 to have them strip naked, as well as allowing customers to touch their breasts and buttocks.

I’ve gotten a few "I-told-you-so" e-mails from people who say the prostitution charges prove I was wrong for criticizing the Everett City Council for its efforts to try and put more clothes on baristas who work at drive through espresso stands in the city.

Actually, I think the arrests prove I was right.

The prostitution charges have nothing to do with whether the female baristas were wearing g-strings or were wrapped from head to toe in a burka.

The arrests were about conduct, not clothing.

Breaking the law should not add weight to the debate over what baristas wear.

Knowing politicians, I’m betting Everett City Council members will try to use the "Grab-n-Go" espresso episode to bolster their argument.

And when they do, you can bet I’ll call them on the stupidity of it.
