Schrammie: The buck stops with someone else
Public officials make the rules.
You'd think public officials would know the rules.
Not so.
And with that I'd like to invite Seattle Parks Director Tim Gallagher to finish up that bite of wedding cake and come on down.
Earlier this year, Tim and his betrothed decided they'd get hitched at Discovery Park where they'd first met.
As honcho of Seattle's parks, Gallagher said his staff told him he didn't need a permit for the wedding.
The mayor's office told him he did.
So Gallagher coughed up $200 for a permit.
But the permit he got was one that no one else could have obtained.
Seems his staff created a special permit for their boss, so he could and his bride could have their wedding in an area of the park where weddings are not allowed.
Gallagher claims ignorance.
Given that he's a public official, that could be a reasonable excuse.
He says he acted on bad advice from those who work for him.
If I may, I'd like to offer Tim some good advice: When you screw up, don't blame your staff.
It makes you look petty and small.
So take a bow Tim Gallagher, because this "Schrammie" is for you.
