Should the person convicted of killing Seattle Police Officer Tim Brenton be executed?
In one of my commentaries, I noted that
my continued opposition to the death penalty leads me to say no.
Others insist that justice demands such a sentence.
Malia Gislason writes: "This cold-blooded murderer doesn't deserve to live...Sitting in (prison) and getting fed meals that taxpayers pay for...He should rot in hell for what he did."
Tom Raver: "Death for the officer's killer? Absolutely."
Karl Shaffer: "It sounds like you would rather torture an individual for the rest of his...life by keeping them locked in a closet until natural death...My position would be to execute them swiftly...It's more humanitarian that way."
Jared Reinfeld: "our (criminal) justice system needs major overhauling...until this can be fixed, (people) who commit crimes such as Brenton's killer should die."
Debbie Ball: "What about the cost to taxpayers to keep them in prison for the rest of their lives?"
And finally, from Jacob Best: "I am not an avid supporter of the death penalty but I do believe there are some crimes so horrific that the persons who commit them should be made to sacrifice their lives. Killing a police officer is certainly one of those crimes."
I want to say thanks to everyone who wrote me on this issue.
Have a good weekend.
