Ken Schram: Is Martin Luther King Jr. for blacks only?
I pose that question as most Americans listen to snippets of the famous "I Have a Dream" speech while they head out to one of the many holiday sales, catch a movie or find some other innocuous way to enjoy the day off from work.
That's not to say there won't be celebrations.
There will of course be ceremonies and gatherings to honor the civil rights leader in cities all over the country.
Questions - most rhetorical but many pointed - will be asked if the dream has been achieved.
Is the dream still alive?
On that August day back in 1963, Martin Luther King said "Now is the time to make real the promises of democracy. Now is the time to rise from the dark and desolate valley of segregation to the sunlit path of racial justice... to lift our nation from the quick sands of... injustice to the solid rock of brotherhood."

Do Latinos enticed here by the promise of freedom and better lives still wallow in the quick sands?
Are Muslims judged by the terrible terrorist acts of a few feel they are on the sunlit path of justice?
Do gay and lesbian couples feel they stand on the solid rock of brotherhood and equality?
Or is Martin Luther King Jr. just for blacks only?
