Pink ribbons and red faces.

This weekend's Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure raised over a million dollars as about 8,500 pairs of feet smacked the streets of Seattle, a noteworthy accomplishment for the more than 7,000 women who will benefit with free mammograms.

But the event was tinged with disappointment.

When matched with last year, this year's race had some 40 percent fewer participants and raised about $500,000 less.

Chalk it up to petty payback.

Earlier this year, the national Komen's organization got into a political dustup with a decision to cut financial ties with Planned Parenthood.

It was a stupid move that was quickly reversed and caused heads to roll in the national organization.

But it's the local group that ultimately bore the brunt of punishment.

The local group that had no part in the Planned Parenthood flap.

The local group that provides mammograms and treatment support for low income women here in our community.

The local group that helps fund research to find a cure for breast cancer.

The local group that lost supporters and lost money needed right here, right now.

I'm donating some extra money because thousands of people made a bad choice.

Maybe you'd consider doing the same.
