Schrammie: $6 million for an animal overpass?
SEATTLE -- It's all about the animals.
The cute, little furry creatures of the forest who may be less than adept at dodging SUV’s and the like.
So we’re getting a multi-million dollar project to try and protect them.
Which leaves me to invite Rick Brater, a honcho with the King County Department of Transportation, to put away the animal spores, and come on down.
Rick's all gung-ho about a construction project on Novelty Hill Road just outside Redmond. It's a 40-foot wide, 120-foot long overpass that will be built to protect local wildlife from becoming road kill.
Yes, a bridge for the animals who want to cross a busy road is to be built for a mere $6-million.
Not to fret, Rick points out that the money comes from a safety enhancement grant provided by a benefactor back in Washington D.C.
Rick thinks taking taxpayer's money from the back pocket instead of the front pocket is just the cat's meow.
$6-million from the Federal Highway Administration for an animal highway to heaven. $6-million deficit dollars spent on a bet that deer and cougars and coyotes will take the road less traveled.
For $6-million dollars, Rick could have hired crossing guards.
For $6-million dollars, we could have bought a floating bridge pontoon!
Which is why I’d like rich to take a bow, because this “Schrammie” is for him.
