Schrammie: Bring back chocolate milk!

SEATTLE -- This week's "Schrammie" goes out in solidarity with students at Maple Valley's Rock Creek Elementary School who understand that the thirst for knowledge must be quenched.

And so I’d like to invite officials with the Tahoma School District to put away their Sippy cups, and come on down.

In keeping with its policy to offer students healthier foods, the Tahoma school district's nutritional wizards have decided that there's just too much sugar in the cocoa flavored concoction that kids relish, which means no more chocolate milk on the lunch menu.

This even as studies show that when the two items - milk and chocolate - are combined, the nutritional benefits of each doubles their effects on your body.

But this is of no matter to those who probably subscribe to the federal government's decree that pizza, because of its tomato paste content, should continue to be on the school lunch menu because its close enough to being a vegetable.

So far, some 130 students have signed a petition to bring back chocolate milk.

But the district seems unrelenting.

Tsk, tsk, tsk.

I stand with the students!

Which is why I ask Tahoma school officials to take a bow, because this “Schrammie” is for you.

Happy Thanksgiving.
