Schrammie: State senator on disability wants to cut option for others
»Play Video
SEATTLE -- He's entitled, others not so much.
In his mind, the monthly disability check he banks is different from the disability checks he wants to take away from others.
So if State Sen. Joe Zarelli would stop balancing his checkbook for a moment, I'd like him to come on down.
Sen. Joe gets $601 tax-free dollars each and every month.
It's money from a back injury he suffered while in the Navy.
Despite enduring what Sen. Joe describes as chronic pain, he still manages to hike Pacific Northwest trails and hobble around a golf course with some frequency.
Being fiscally conservative, Sen. Joe has taken umbrage at what he calls the "free money" available to folks getting benefits in the state's medical care services program.
Cut those programs; save money, is Sen. Joe's mantra.
Sick people; mentally ill people; disabled people - some of whom also have addiction issues - should be yanked off the public dole, says Sen. Joe.
I find it interesting that Sen. Joe can rationalize and justify stuffing his own pockets with taxpayer cash every month, while being so intent on picking the pockets of those he judges as unworthy.
I think that leaves Sen. Joe Zarelli entitled to take a bow, because this "Schrammie" is for him.
