SEATTLE -- He's smart enough to know better. But sometimes political expediency seems to trump doing what the current job description calls for.

And so it is that I'd like to invite State Attorney General Rob McKenna - who also covets the office of governor - to fulfill his current responsibility before pandering to his higher aspirations.

State law says that it's the attorney general who writes up the title and summary of measures to appear on the ballot and in voter pamphlets. The A.G. is legally obligated to use language that is neutral and unbiased.

Uh-oh.

As opponents challenge the new law that creates marriage equality here in Washington, it's likely that voters will cast their ballot this November based, in part, on how Rob McKenna words what we'll be voting on.

Our esteemed attorney general chose the inflammatory phrase "redefining marriage" as part of what voters will read.

Rob McKenna -- a well-known opponent to same sex marriage -- has to know that "redefining marriage" is the battle cry phrase for conservatives who want to squelch marriage equality here in Washington.

Tsk tsk tsk Mr. attorney general.

That's not very neutral.

So, for putting your personal views ahead of your professional responsibilities, you need to take a bow, because this "Schrammie" is for you.
