The Schrammie: This dictatorial attitude needs to go
She has the voice of an angel and the heart of a warrior.
Her mission has been feeding the homeless for almost a quarter of a century.
And one more time Bev Graham is doing battle with local bureaucrats who characterize her efforts as "disrespectful and undignified."
So if the uber dignified director of Seattle's Human Services Department would shelve her arrogance and ego for a moment, I'd like Dannette Smith to come on down.
Dannette disdains Bev Graham's outdoor meal program.
Because Dannette's debonair sensibilities are offended by homeless people lining up three times a day at an I-5 underpass to get hot, wholesome meals, staving off growling stomachs that might otherwise go unfilled.
Dannette's decided that meals served outside, under a freeway overpass, are "inhumane."
Dannette's determined to shut Bev Graham down.
In the months since Dannette arrived here to head up Seattle human services, she's displayed a dictatorial 'my way or the highway' attitude.
This hot meal program is but her latest target.
Dannette needs to sit down and work this out with Bev Graham.
Maybe Dannette should even deem to talk with the homeless folk who depend on these meals for some sustenance and hope.
But in the interim, Dannette Smith should take a bow, because this "Schrammie" is for her.
