Does the end justify the means?

Not when the means involves a public agency cloaking itself in secrecy.

So if Bellevue Police Chief Linda Pillo would quit flashing her badge, I'd like her to come on down.

Back in September, a couple of intoxicated Bellevue cops on their way to a Seahawks game got into a tussle with a Seattle police officer over littering.

Flashing their badges, the Bellevue officers cussed the SPD officer out and were so intimidating that the SPD officer called in a supervisor.

Eventually allowed to just go on their way, the Bellevue cops got to their stadium seats and began dropping F-bombs while acting in an obnoxious manner.

They were eventually kicked out of the game and one officer drove home drunk.

Now we have Chief Pillo saying an internal investigation of the incident leaves the cops demoted in both rank and salary.

Probably a proper level of admonishment.

I say "probably" because Chief Pillo is not releasing details of the investigation; not releasing the extent to which the whole matter was looked into.

It leaves people with the sense that there's some sort of cover-up going on.

Should the officers have been fired?

We don't know because we don't know the thoroughness of the investigation because Chief Pillo won't tell us.

And for that, the chief should take a bow, because this "Schrammie" is for her.
