Viewers to Ken: DOT spending on homeless is 'asinine'
A whole lot of people did not like my giving this week's "Schrammie" to Paula Hammond, the head of the State Department of Transportation.
I figured with the DOT having millions of discretionary dollars to toss around to mitigate the impact of constructing the viaduct tunnel, some of that money should have gone to helping the homeless who've been displaced because of the project.
Andrea Narlson writes: "How quick you are to spend taxpayer dollars on a collection of bums that took it upon themselves to squat under the viaduct ...."
Vince Edelson: "If you feel such compassion for the motley collection of people who set up a homestead under the viaduct, I suggest you measure out some space in your backyard and invite them to camp there."
Terri Bess: "Wrong, wrong, wrong .... The homeless under the viaduct commentary is wrong!"
Drew Beets: "Your suggestion that we use DOT funds to relocate the homeless that were living under the viaduct is the most single asinine thing I have ever heard .... That's not to say that I am heartless to their plight ... but using DOT funds? Come on man!"
And finally, from Grant Harlenger: "Is there no end to your liberalism ... no boundaries to your touchy-feely, bleeding heart philosophy? Keep your ideas away from my wallet!"
Can't make any promises, Grant, but I will point out: It's my wallet, too.
Thanks for writing, everyone.
Have a great weekend.
